TWENTY-TWO BEEF BREEDS ON DISPLAY AT BEEF EXPO 2008

spacer

No fewer than 22 beef breed societies have reserved demonstration space to promote their breeds and it is anticipated that more than 300 cattle will be on display.

“This must be the largest display of the different breeds of beef cattle ever seen in Scotland and will give commercial beef producers a unique opportunity of assessing the merits of the different breeds,” said event organiser, Euan Emslie.

“All breeds of commercial significance in the UK will be represented and will have breed experts on hand to discuss the particular advantages of their breed for commercial beef production.”

Organised by the National Beef Association, Beef Expo is held at a different venue each year and attracts thousands of beef farmers and industry representatives from across the UK and Ireland, as well as from overseas. The event was last held in Scotland in 2004.

Major sponsor this year is Lloyds TSB Agriculture with the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society, McDonald Restaurants, Quality Meat Scotland, Livestock Technology Solutions, Schering-Plough/Intervet and United Auctions as mainline sponsors.

Beef breeds represented will be:

Aberdeen-Angus
Beef Shorthorn
British Bazadaise
British Blue
British Blonde
British Charolais
British Limousin
British Simmental
Galloway
Gascon
Hereford
Highland
Lincoln Red
Longhorn
Luing
Murray Grey
Parthenais
Red Poll
Salers
South Devon
Stabiliser
Whitebred Shorthorn

Other features of Beef Expo will include more than 100 trade stands, technical demonstrations on the value of Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs), cattle handling and feeder wagons, stockjudging competitions and comprehensive seminar programme.

On the day before the event (Tuesday, May 20), there will be an opportunity to visit two leading Perthshire beef farmers followed by an afternoon conference at Perth Agricultural Centre and pre-event dinner. Cost for the conference only is £5 + VAT, conference and dinner £33.19 + VAT and farm tour £12 + VAT (including coach hire and packed lunch).
