Winner of the Yara Perpetual Trophy open stockjudging competition, sponsored by Yara UK, was Melissa Timms, More Farm, Bathchurch, Shrewsbury, with the runner-up award going to R Vincent, Sycamore Cottages, Arping, Folkeston, Kent. Melissa also took second place in the open weight guessing competition.

The Duke of Northumberland Trophy and cash prize of £200 sponsored by Norbrook Laboratories for the winner in the senior section (19 – 21) of the young farmers’ stockjudging competition was Harry Gilder, Moat Farm, Lower Stensham, Worcester, whose sister, Rachel Gilder, was runner-up.

The junior section (18 and under) was won by Harriot Wilson, Whitecross Farm Haughton, Stafford, with Christie Joseph, Lloyroy, Llanstephen, Llyswen, Brecon, runner-up.

Christie was also first in the weight guessing competition for young farmers with second place going to Nia Lown Griffiths, Carmarthen.

The Ritchey open weight guessing was won by F G Goodall, Llandovery,

 

£2000 Prize Money up for grabs in Beef Expo Stockjudging Competitions

Visitors to Beef Expo 2009, to be held at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern, Worcester, on Thursday (May 21), will have the opportunity of competing for prize money totalling £2000 in a beef cattle judging competition.

A total of £1000 in prize money is up for grabs in the Yara Open Stockjudging Competition where the winner will also receive the Yara Perpetual Trophy.

Young farmers will also be competing for a prize pot of £1000, including £500 sponsored by Norbrook Laboratories, and the Duke of Norfolk Perpetual Trophy, for the senior winner, and £200 sponsored by the Belgian Blue Cattle Society and auctioneers, Frank R Marshall, and a Rosebowl for the junior winner.

Entry to both competitions is free and entry forms can be picked up on the day from the EBLEX stand. The competition will be open from 9.30am to 12 noon and the presentation of trophies will take place at 4.00pm.

Three classes of beef cattle will require to be judged and Ritchey Tags are also sponsoring a competition to guess the weight of two Hereford steers, with a top prize valued at £200.
